January....almost over!!???

Where did the time go this past month? It is usually my least favourite month, given the temperatures, and the "down" time after being so busy getting ready for shows, etc. and this year has been no exception. The plans that I have to a) clean out the sewing room b) finish up all of the items that did not get finished during the last few weeks of "production" c) clean out all of the closets and "purge" all that is not needed etc. etc. etc., still haven't happened. (maybe in February?)
On a positive note, I DID do a lot of business "book work" that usually waits until March....and have been in classrooms, doing one of my favourite things, being with kids and teaching. (however, it is SO nice to have the flexibility of not going in everyday!) Have finished a book or two, crocheted hats for "little ones" for gifts, etc., and have even cooked a few meals here and there.
As for my original list....there is always February!

Sister Rita Story's "picks"...

After months of preparing for shows, and busy schedules, it is time again to enjoy the books that have been waiting to be read. Two books that have made it to the "list" were Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol", and Mitch Albom's "Have a Little Faith"....and I enjoyed both of them for different reasons. "The Lost Symbol" did not disappoint for being an entertaining, exciting read, and was one of those books that made the reader want to keep reading just to find out the next "twist" in the plot...and there were many.
"Have a Little Faith" was a lovely story, a true story by the author, of two remarkable men who had very different faith experiences, but the relating of those experiences was uplifting, and encouraging, particularly in these times. One lesson learned from the rabbi whose story is told is to be satisfied, and to be thankful.....not sure that most of us are, even at the best of times!
Please feel free to share what is on your "reading list"!

A New Member....

has joined the "Sisterhood"! This new "Sister" was a custom order, and represents one who enjoys spending time in Paris. She sports a red beret, and holds her "carte postale" to send off to others not fortunate enough to be able to regularly visit this destination, along with an image of another favorite haunt, the Eiffel Tower. She has been called "Sister Gaye Paree"....
No matter how many "Eiffel towers" that are placed around our own house, the suggestion to spend a vacation in France just never comes up...I think parking this "Sister" in multiples around the house might help....mais oui!

Recipe from "Mother Souperior"!

One of my goals last year was to share some recipes that worked for me. Since so few work for me, this is the first time I am sharing! My intent was to take a picture of a lovely gift given to us by "Sister Carmel Popcorn", otherwise known as Joan! She presented us with a lovely Christmas mug, filled with these wonderful mixed spiced nuts. Unfortunately, since the time that I intended to take the picture, we ate them! (they were SO good!) Joan prepared them for her book club dinner, and hence, they are called "Novel Nuts".....
Here is the recipe!

NOVEL NUTS

1 lb. pecan halves

½ lb. whole almonds

1 egg white

1 tsp cold water

½ cup sugar

¼ tsp salt

½ tsp cinnamon

Good sprinkle of nutmeg

Beat egg white and water until frothy. Add nuts and mix until well coated. Combine spices together and add to nut mixture. Bake 1 hour at 225 deg., on buttered cookie sheet. Stir evenly every 15 minutes. These keep well in covered container.

Bon Appetit!

You Know it's Bad When....

the time comes for the new driver's license to be taken, and the clerk suggests that another photo should be taken after she "checks out" the first one. Thankfully, she did not laugh, but I can just imagine how bad the photo must have been when, upon shooting the second photo, she said, "Oh, yes, this is much better!" Given the fact that this "sister" rarely has a photo taken, it is encouraging to think that some people in this position would not let the ridiculous photo be on the license for the five years that it remains there. ( I think it is five years....I left it to the last possible day!)
This nice lady agreed with me when I asked her if the second photo attempt had me looking exactly like Angelina Jolie....
In two weeks, the "real" photo will arrive....the verdict is still out whether or not this was a kind move on the part of the clerk... :)

Can't Imagine...

in this frigid weather that we are experiencing here that people have been participating in annual "Polar Bear Dips" across the country! Hopefully, they are not in the deep freeze we are in...but any degree of cold would be too cold by my standards!
These lovely bathing beauties are taking a dip in warmer weather...
